Here are the different ways that you can file a complaint with the DFHV:

- Hand carry your letter to the Department of For-Hire Vehicles at 2235 Shannon Place SE, Suite 3001

LOST & FOUND
Items found by the driver of a District of Columbia taxicab are returned to the Department of For-Hire Vehicles (DFHV).
Please complete the Lost Property Form.
You may call the DFHV 24 hours a day/7 days a week at (855) 484-4966 and please include as much as possible of the following information:
- Your full name
- U.S. telephone number and/or email address
- A brief description of the item
- The date it was lost
*If you have a completed receipt from your trip you may fax it to the number above.
You should include any of the following information if you have it:
- The driver’s name
- Face ID number
- Vehicle license plate number
If the item is a cellular telephone, please include:
- The model
- Serial number
- PIN, and
- Cellular telephone number
Office hours are 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, Monday-Friday, excluding holidays. If the item was lost over the weekend or a holiday, please allow two to three days for the driver to return the item.
If an item is turned in matching the description, you will be contacted for further information. All items not claimed within five (5) days are turned over to MPD’s Property Division. Please call (202) 727-3230.
Retrieving Lost Property
You must provide a picture ID to retrieve the item in person.
To have the item shipped you must provide a container for the item. If the item is a piece of luggage or larger, we will tape the item to prepare for shipping. Please provide a pre-paid shipping label with your address or an address to where the item is to be shipped. DFHV will call the service when the item is ready for shipment.
